April 2, It's like a baby

It’s like a baby. It doesn’t seem to grow steadily, it grows in spurts. Today we witnessed such a spurt. Yesterday Fer arrived with the  mats for the floor, today the technical equipment arrived after a few days of  bargaining with the company which happens to have a monopoly in this country. Sounds familiar: in Cambodia we suffered similar problems with our video-registration. That last one is more simple over here: at least  there are enough people offering to document the show. And lucky enough today Carole Karemera, the director of Ishyo – the theatre we will have our first two performances and that we now use for rehearsals – offered us to mediate towards the best solution, Rwanda Cinema Centre. It might imply we’ll have to reprint all our posters for the third time, in order to add another logo… but who cares. In the end we even don’t print them, but bring them to a copyshop.

Yesterday Annemarie suddenly suggested to have a run through. It was chaotic, but less then expected, and the actors even managed to mesmerize (and emotionalize) the onlookers. Tomorrow we can experiment with the sound… in a theatre that doesn’t need mics at all, given its size. It might as well add a nice new layer, or be not so necessary as we once thought it would be. But there will be bigger spaces on the tour, so we will probably use them anyhow.
